Mariam Ashraf is an Associate Attorney at Kondori & Moorad, LLP. Her practice includes estate planning, guardianships and conservatorships, elder law, probate and trust administration, and related fiduciary matters. Her experience across these interconnected areas allows her to assist individuals and families through planning, incapacity, court proceedings, and the administration of estates and trusts.
Mariam advises clients regarding wills, revocable living trusts, powers of attorney, advance medical directives, and other estate-planning documents. She conducts client consultations, evaluates family and financial circumstances, and prepares planning documents designed to address each client’s objectives and concerns.
She also represents clients in guardianship and conservatorship proceedings and serves as Guardian ad Litem in matters involving alleged incapacitated persons. Her work requires careful investigation, review of medical and financial information, communication with families and care providers, and consideration of the individual’s rights, needs, and available alternatives.
In addition to representing clients and fiduciaries, Mariam personally serves in court-appointed fiduciary capacities. She assists with the administration of estates and other fiduciary matters involving the collection and protection of assets, satisfaction of court requirements, resolution of claims, preparation of filings, and distribution of property. Her direct fiduciary experience provides her with a practical understanding of the responsibilities assumed by guardians, conservators, administrators, trustees, and other court-appointed representatives.
Mariam’s legal education spans Canada, England, and the United States. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Toronto, where she served as Vice President of the Political Science and Pre-Law Association. She obtained her law degree from the University of Leicester, served as a departmental representative for her graduating class, and was published in the Leicester Law Review.
She later earned a Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University and a second Master of Laws from The George Washington University Law School, where she served on the University’s Integrity and Conduct Panel.
Mariam is admitted to practice in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. She is also a member of the National Guardianship Association and a commissioned Virginia Notary Public.
